HIPAA

The Department of Health and Human Services has promulgated the Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA Privacy Rule). The Privacy rule requires "Covered Entities" to develop a notice and inform insured's of the uses and disclosures of their personal health information without authorization, descriptions of the insured's individual rights and how those rights can be exercised.
